Tribute to Mary Helen – Madanlal
My dear Narad,
Chali
met me at the Ashram this morning when I came back from Sri Aurobindo's room at
10 a.m. I did not know about the
passing away of dear Mary, although you did inform me in one of your e-mails
about her suffering from cancer.
I
was always hoping all these days that she must have been recovering although in
my heart there was always a fear lurking.
Dear Narad! Perhaps you don't know that I had passed a very long period
of experiences of this deadly disease (almost 3 years in the course of my
wife's illness) through which period Mother taught me so many things. In short I must tell y

Dear Narad,
All of us who work at Matrimandir send you
our heartfelt condolences. We know
how bravely Mary Helen fought to continue The Mother's work in this life, and I
will always personally remember her youthfulness and light. Sometimes we come together and
sometimes we part, but the goal remains eternally the same – The Mother's
Light, Truth and Love.
And the one comfort for all of us is that
we will forever remain in Her Presence.
With
love and best

Narad –
We are so sorry to hear about Mary
Helen. We have been thinking of
her over these past few yeas and hoping for the best. I always remember cutting her waistlong
thick hair, under a mango tree.
She complained that her
hair was so heavy and hot and could I please take off about ½ inch. I trimmed off the oppressive ½ inch
and she jumped up from the chair and said "Oh, that is so much better, I feel
so much lighter."
We remember her with love and affection.

Dear Narad,
I never met Mary Helen in this life, but
your remembrance and tribute made me feel as if I had known her long and
well. May Mother guide her passage
on to the psychic realms and future realisations.
Thank you for sharing her story.
With gratitude for the work and sadhana of
both of you.

Tribute to Mary Helen –
Manuèle
Narad,
I remember you and
Mary Helen from the time you were both at the Matrimandir Nursery and did such
a wonderful job. Recently we read
the news of Mary Helen's leaving her body and I wanted to send you all my love,
and to her too, that she may meet with the Mother and Sri Aurobindo whom she
loved so much.
You and her are not
alone on this journey.
With prayers,
Manuèle

In that moment when she
embraced me, folding her thin, frail arms around me, I knew she had transcended
human love and I was enveloped in the rapture of her soul's embrace. All the sweetness, all the tenderness
of this beautiful being I knew as Mary Helen flowed into me and no human emotion
will ever again approach that divine and selfless expression.
In later years the intensity
of our human love turned more and more towards its divine source and in doing
so deepened the sacred atmosphere around us. I don't know exactly when the commitment was truly made to try
and give myself completely to Mother and Sri Aurobindo but it must have been

Dearest Richard,
Danny and I were so happy to hear from
Merrill that you are coming back to Houston to speak to the Plumeria Society
but terribly saddened to learn of Mary Helen's passing. We will always remember her as a
heavenly soul wit ethereal grace and beauty and our prayers are with you and
your family in this time of immeasurable sorrow.

Tribute to Mary Helen – Mangesh Nadkarni
Dear Richard,
The
March issue of Auroville Today came into my hand only this morning. We were very touched to read your
Tribute to Mary Helen. We knew she
was fighting the battle for the body's great future, but we are sad to learn
that she is no more. To have lived
a life as beautifully as she did and to lay down her body as one of Mother's
flaming warriors – that is achievement enough for one yogic life. We did not know her personally as well
as we have known you, and yet to have known someone like her even second hand
(through you) is a blessing we cherish deeply. May the dear departed rest in peace until the Mother cal
