I Have Known a Love I have known a love transcending mere desire Who through ages unremembered blesses me, In whose lucent eyes a sweet and holy fire Burns, as we together grow towards Thee. So many thy gifts I humbly do avow And of these surely she the eternal gift; Descending the peace and stillness gather now As to Thy Light our souls in concert lift. Dawns sweetly the awareness of Thy Grace Informing every breath, each step I take, A flaming offering fills the sacred space All past attachments quietly now forsake. In silence hear the psych

At Her Feet - Birthday 7/29/72 I entered the room and saw Her in the chair And moved to Her with supplicating hands. Time disappeared, I felt in that puissant air A vastness as on heaven's borderlands. As I knelt and placed my forehead on her feet My small concerns and burdened cares released In an endless moment her wondrous smile to meet, And feel Her love as all my thinking ceased. My soul looked out from behind its protecting veil And in the flame of Her penetrating gaze It knew a timeless truth that would prevail, Her truth upon creation to em

On Dying October 1999 The mystics affirm that shortly before we die, As in a cinematographic show There pass before us the stations of our life, Its highest peaks of love and sacrifice And gathering these to a resting place we go Where the psychic being in rapt absorption builds The vessel of its immanent descent.

In the Ashram Courtyard - 2 Solemn men - and simply clad In flowing dhotis silently Across the courtyard, fragrance-filled, Move with grave intensity. Fierce-browed or smiling, they see beyond The temporal to timeless things Through aeskesis and austerity Imbue the peace that godhead brings. Men like us yet not like us Who view a world that hardly we In sudden moments of illumined sight Or psychic opening could see. Unmoved by storms of violence Unswayed by passion's gusts, at ease They stand aloof from sorro

Cosmos Flower 9/9/99 - 9 a.m. In the cosmos flower is mirrored creation's goal Its vivid hues impress on the inner eye Godhead's sanction to the surrendered soul That flowers forth by the hand of deity. All the blossoms of the earth attest To the grandeur of the gnostic being's delight Moving through the moments of our lives, Awake in our sleep, illumining our night.

Attachment Attachment rips you open, tears you apart Allowing the pall of sorrow to cover the soul, Benumbs the senses, rends the wounded heart, Blinds the inner sight to the aureole Of light surrounding the form of our outer being, Inhibits the growing soul from the deeper seeing.

Return to the Ashram Through all the years of wandering We once again return To the fount of light by sun-drenched shores Where the inner fires burn. A spiritual home ever welcoming The traveller of the soul With its tangible intensity In quest of the highest goal. A melting pot where the seeker feels The rays of truth descend And bows the frame spontaneously His smallness to transcend.

Mother - 2nd Version March 1, 1999 For simply to be is a blessing unparalleled, To resound with Her call and all the being rejoice Radiant in Her smile; to have been held By the melodious majesty of Her voice. To have knelt in utter stillness open and bare, Her hand upon the offered head and there To have felt Her Presence, breathed Her celestial air, As she blessed for all ages the soul before her chair. One feels in the inmost chamber rising and swift A fire ablaze forcing time's barriers to break Instilling Her For

To Mary Helen --- The Soul in Gratitude Reflecting Nov. 22, 1999 Prayers not for self but for the tender soul Who sweetly through the years companions me Through nights of pain and sorrow, days of joy On all the cherished avenues of life. We have travelled through the gardens of the world Seeking flowers for the golden shrine In Auroville where the soil in silence waits To hold the symbols of Love and Consciousness, And Youth attending

Late evening, Feb. 20, 1999 - Mother’s birthday in India Sonnet to The Mother Still by Her feet my soul awoke And the crust of ego’s hardness broke, Within the heart Her brilliant flame And deep inside installed, the Name. In that little room in a burning land She blessed me with her radiant hand And smiled a smile that grew a fire Igniting within the heart’s desire. Full forty years have nearly flown And the fledgling spirit hardly grown Through long travail and late awaking Sees through clouds a new sun breaking.
