The Mystical Rose - Mother's
Birthday - Feb. 21, 1998
I
never knew the rose.
She
waited, silent and fair,
Her
heavenly fragrance close
Perfuming
terrestrial air.
Through
sixty sacred years
I've
felt her presence grow,
And
now through joyous tears
Embrace the rose I know.

A Prayer to Mother and Sri
Aurobindo
on Mary Helen's birthday -
Feb. 8, 1998
Touch her tonight O Lord,
Descend to her here on earth
And whisper the mystic word
At this moment of her rebirth.
Inspire her spirit to rise
To thy feet in loveliness
Upon her sleep-filled eyes
Bestow thy tender caress
That she might wake in wonder,
Renewed on her silent way
Walk through storm and thunder
Unmoved by the karmic play.
If my voice can reach thee
I pray thee answer my prayer
That she whom you've given to teach me
May breathe thy celestial air.
There Is No Night
Dec. 2002
From glacial vasts to equatorial shores
The spirit moves by distance undeterred
Ever seeking the path of light explores
The higher realms; a voice now faintly heard
Whispers softly to the attentive ear
"Come, take refuge in my house of light
Reject desire, cast away all fear,
Know that I am all, there is no night
Though seeming far to you I am so near."

Winter Haiku - Scroll VIII
Frozen lake.
Shall my feet
Test the thickness of the ice?
The frozen sun
Weak and pale
Blinds my eyesthe sparkling snow!
Winter flower,
Testament
That life beyond our death endures.
Hardy snowdrops,
Blossoms pure
Wake me from my sorrow's sleep.

For my beloved Mary Helen
When * 'Transformation' Flowers Fell
Dec. 6, 2002
I remembered thee in morning light
When 'Transformation' flowers fell
Andin the Bay of Bengal's night
Whose eternal waters rise and swell
In waves entranced by moon-delight
That break upon these timeless shores.
I marked thee in the song-bird's flight
And shared with earth her deep remorse
When beauty fled the anguished soil
That felt no more a well-loved tread
Or gentle hands of cheerful toil
Where on thy gracious presence shed.
The Sun Speaks
O man thou representative of God
Who in thy bosom hold His force and flame,
Yet seem a work magnificent but marred
Or flawed attempt in some tremendous game
Of chance to win thy immortality.
In bodies weak and minds so circumscribed
As worship a dim and masked divinity
Who can be bought with shallow prayer or bribed
With empty gifts on altars of desire.
My radiance is symbol of his care,
For thou must burn all dross and reaching higher
Attain the realms above the world's despair,
Await the dispensation of His peace,
The touch that shall transform and liberate.
Tend the flame within and do not cease
Until His

The Fields Where Krishna Plays
In an unknown limbo of the soul I wait
And tread the daily wheel of work and sleep,
The busy hum of mind is dulled of late
For in my heart a memory I keep
Of golden limbs that clasped my spirit close
And eyes divine, pools of radiance,
A smile that from her inner being rose
From founts of love to bless me with each glance.
I live alone apart from want or need
And call upon the Grace that guides my days
To fan this aspiration's flame, the seed
Of silence nourish with protecting rays
That I may hymn the poetry of praise
And walk again the fields where Krishna plays.
Final Destiny
I held her fragile in the fading day
As slowly night upon the landscape fell.
What words we spoke the gods alone can say,
She faltered now as death his painful spell
Wove upon the fabric of her soul.
"Mother give her one more day", I prayed,
"Before the great bell sounds its final toll
And the edict of our fate must be obeyed.
O let her breathe till morning light appear
That she may live to see her birth month dawn,
Begin the cycle of her final year
In Thy embrace by love once more reborn.
And I shall hold the music close within
Of mountain peaks that lifted us above
Ourselves to breathe an air so crystalline,

Stronger Grows the Soul's Belief
Two forces clash in us
And more perhaps, I do not know,
Joust within the confines of the flesh
Inviting us to savour worlds below
And all unholy things.
One tempts the spirit towards decay,
One lifts the soul to soar on freedom-wings
Above the narrow window of our day.
Still are we dragged and torn,
Tossed upon emotion's seas
By waves of sorrow or by years forlorn,
Or undertow of death that hopes to cease
Life in its dreaming sleep.
But I shall not succumb to grief,
The Flame that once was lit in me I keep
And stronger grows by trial the

A Suppliant to Godhead's Throne
I come a suppliant to Godhead's throne
Attached and clinging to a chequered past,
Knowing Thou art here yet most alone,
A leading role in sorrow's drama cast.
If I could grasp the lever to propel
The psychic being to the body's fore,
Released from pain of isolation's hell
To know Thy will, to witness and adore
The presence that abides within these walls,
A grace above descending mid our doubt,
The Mother's love that sweetly to us calls
To trust that She will cast our demons out,
To tread upon the sunlit path, progress
By strong surrender, yield my life to Grace,
To feel in all this
