OM and the New Music December 2002 I was amazed the other evening when I chanted OM and read Savitri at Huta's house, 'Gratitude', that there was still some voice left after nearly forty years without practicing. Perhaps Mother will give me an opening to the new music but I am aware that the chanting must be egoless – not even a hint of "personal satisfaction". If all can be offered to the Divine then, perhaps...

In the Service Tree October 2001 When Mother gave me the work of caring for the Service Tree immediately after the cyclone broke the massive branch that was directly over the Samadhi, facing south, I worked on the tree throughout the 1970's to 1981. During the 1980's I lived in the U.S. and in the 1990's once again took up the work, now with many able assistants, among them Montu and Andreas. This is the story of a day in 1970 (or 1971, I no longer recall exactly) when I was still climbing with a safety harness, often going very high into the top of th

Golconde and Life in the Ashram 2003 I sit in my spotless Golconde room as a cooling breeze moves through the heat of day. A few clusters of 'Joy in Fairyland' (Kleinhovia hospita) borne atop the vibrant heart-shaped leaves come into view through the shutters and my spirit after long grief is at rest in this sacred atmosphere. Golconde is a sanctuary for the soul. Voices are subdued, greetings muted but no less deep, and the spirit of cleanliness and order and the respect for material things is evident everywhere. So many kindnesses

Ashram School Children June 15, 2004 This morning I received more blessings, through the children and from Arati. These children, ages 12-13 are so special. There is a light in them that is unmistakable. I began the music class with all of us holding hands in offering to the Divine. We chanted AUM. Usually I have to begin as the children wait for the lead. Today I received the inspiration (from the experience with the Meditation Choir) to ask the children to go deeply within and to chant AUM on any note they wished for when we offer our song to the Divine there are no wrong notes. We closed our eyes and suddenly I was filled with the beauty of what I heard, a har

Diary March 4, 2003 Departure from the Ashram and Auroville How can one quantify or qualify love? Unless we touch the soul in another being it is impossible. I have known the protective love of a mother, possessive love, the deep but mostly unvoiced love of a father, the familial love of brothers and a sister, the 'love' of friends, their warmth and goodwill, and their aspiration for my continued progress and my health. My life has been marked by love. In the love of Mary Helen I knew selflessness and devotion to

Mother's Grace - February 25, 1999.htm Mother's Grace Feb. 25, 1999 On Mother's Birthday, February 21st, five months have passed since Mary Helen's surgery. I look back on this period and understand how much the Grace has been with us, and in moments of the greatest difficulty and pain there has also been the joy of knowing that Mother and Sri Aurobindo have so blessed us. Indeed, they have always been with us only I have not at times been aware! When Mother first accepted me in 1961 after receiving my photo and seeing my handwriting sent by Jyotipriya, She said: "He may come as

Matrimandir Gardens Diary   ̶ circa 2004 It is only the Divine who can give us the vision of the Matrimandir Gardens. It will not come by the mind's effort or the vital's power and insistence or the body's effort for manifestation. When our hearts and souls are open to the Mother the realization of the Gardens will be accomplished. For me it is a time of prayer and aspiration, a call for Her to work through our hands, our minds and our hearts, to build in us a divine sense of beauty that will give us the first glimpse of this marvelous creation never seen on earth before.

Diary Surgery Day – Sept. 28, 1998-3 10:15 a.m. Three hours have passed since she left the room and I have remained here at the window, pen in hand, writing these thoughts and prayers as they come through, watching the joyous mockingbird on the high tops of trees sing his infinite variations of joy and I feel that if my songs of healing are accepted by the Lord, you will be healed and through the pain and tears draw ever nearer to Him. My love and my songs go forth to thee. Rest lovely soul on the peace of his bosom and in the lap of our Mother.
