It was certainly with the progress of evolution, the march of evolution,
when the mind began to develop for and in itself, that ALL the
complications, all the deformations began. Indeed, this story of Genesis
that seems so childish does contain a truth. The old traditions like
Genesis resembled the Vedas in that each letter [[In Genesis, Hebraic
letters. ]] was the symbol of a knowledge; it was the pictorial résumé
of a traditional knowledge, just as the Veda contains a pictoral résumé
of the knowledge of its time. But what's more, even the symbol had a
reality in the sense that there was truly a period when life upon earth

Right now there is a great tension. They have all taken positions
as if to start war. It is the blind passion that men put into their
international relations.
At the base of it all there is fear, general distrust, and what
they believe to be their "interests" (money, business) - a combination
of these three things. When these three lowest passions of humanity are

(To Nolini:) Do you know?
(Nolini:) At the beginning, when he came to Pondicherry [in1910].
At the very beginning.... But then, what does he mean when he says, "When I knew that God was a woman"!
(Nolini:) He always used to say that Krishna and Kali were one
and the same being. Ramakrishna, too, once became a woman:
God was Krishna and he became a woman; for a long time he
had that impression.
Naturally, for me, the answer is this sense of humor! (Mother laughs)

The Mother's victory is essentially a
victory of each Sadhak over himself. It can only be then that any
external form of work can come to a harmonious perfection.

Why should the Mother be obliged to
treat everybody in the same way? It would be a most imbecile thing
for her to do that.

I told him Tibet would become independent again. He asked me when.
I said, "I don't know." [[Mother replied, "All depends
on the world's receptivity to the supramental consciousness." We

Sri Aurobindo's idea was an independent Tibet within a sort of
great federation with India. But when will that happen? I don't know.

Dreams or visions on the vital
plane
are usually either:
(1) symbolic vital visions;
(2)
actual occurrences on the vital plane;
(3) formations of the
vital mind, either of the dreamer or of someone else with whom he
contacts in sleep or of powers or beings of that plane. No great
reliance can be put on this kind of experience, even the first having
only a relative or suggestive value, while the second and third are
often quite misleading.

A
movement in the case of a work like mine means the founding of a school
or a sect or some other damned nonsense. It means that hundreds or
thousands of useless people join in and corrupt the work or reduce it to
a pompous farce from which the Truth that was coming down recedes into
secrecy and silence. It is what has happened to the “religions” and is
the reason of their failure.

Light is an emanation from the sun, but the sun is itself an emanation
from God. When it is full of Him, then it is full of light. So the
ancient Rishis used to say that He was in the sun. /Yo’sau purusah /etc.
But this was only a manner of speaking. When the sun is full of God's
presence, it is full of light and heat, when it is empty of Him, the
light and heat are withdrawn. So too the human soul is like the sun:
When it is full of light and heat, it is said to be alive, when the
light and heat are withdrawn, it is said to die. But this too is only a
manner of speaking. The soul is imperishable. When the body feels the
presence of God within, it is conscious of l

So with India rests the future of the
world. Whenever she is aroused from her sleep, she gives forth some
wonderful shining ray of light to the world which is enough to
illuminate the nations. Others live for centuries on what is to her
the thought of a moment. God gave to her the book of Ancient Wisdom
