Lover of My Soul
11/21/01
I've known behind Thy smile the Fire's force
Incinerating veils of ignorance
Igniting at the core this fragile spark.
A look, a blessing touch, a moment's glance,
I shall Thy grace remember through all time,
Approaching did my spirit recognize
A Mother's smile that holds the universe
A captive of the god-light in her eyes.
Not as a pleasant picture in a frame
Do I a seeker kneel to worship Thee,
Or vast transcendence limitless, unknown,
But lover of my soul who sets me free.
In My Youth
In my youth I tended soil and tree
And of earth's marvels ever lived in awe
Innately aware of a living sanctity
I harvested her gifts yet hardly saw
In the miracle of fruit on laden limb
The occult force that germinates the seed,
The energy that pierces hardened crusts
To reach the sun, its sole imperative need.
I met along my path the gifted men
Who understood the rhythms of the earth
And shared with me their wisdom and the skill
That gently coaxes substance into birth.
And as I watched and cared I also grew
Aware of dormant needs from deeper roots,
A fallow spirit that lay untended within,
The first emergence of thos

A View from 30,000 Feet
Into the dark and silent sky we rose
On silver wings above earth's sleeping floor,
Day had drawn to a long and musing close
When we suddenly saw a million lights and more,
Crystalline cities of ruby and emerald glow
Scattered upon the velvet folds of night,
A gem-cut wonderland of childhood's dreams
Or faery streams of coruscating light.
Yet when we soared into the troposphere
The landscape paled and lost its magic hue,
Mere dots of insignificance revealed,
Lost in an immensity of blue.
As so the marvels wrought by human hand
Fade into the dust of memory
Unless the spirit's seal and signature
As

Chant the Odes of Honour
I cannot sing the verses of the sea
Nor have I learned the stanzas to the sun,
But God through flowers smiling speaks to me
Of the destiny of earth that must be won,
Of the labours of the spirit scarce begun
Ere light shall dawn and consciousness awake
And man the boundaries of his fate outrun
And the gods that soar above him overtake.
We shall chant the odes of honour to the One
Who secretly within our souls resides
Who shall not cease His work till all is done
For which he built the worlds where Kalki rides
Carrying the superhuman Seer
To cleanse the earth and bear the Godhead near.
Balcony Darshan - 2 4/9/01
A silence fell among the devotees
As with a sound of vespers drawing close
She neared, and carried on the evening breeze
Her fragrance far more haunting than the rose.
Stillness descended on the assembled throng
Expectancy quivered in the languorous air
The heart replied to the hidden psychic's song,
Soft voices filled the burgeoning night with prayer.
Slowly She moved, Her hands upon the rail
Her heavenward eyes withdrawn in potent trance
The seconds as passing aeons seemed to prevail,
Then on us She cast a long and lingering glance.
In that instant of Grace our future's road was paved
And all our human failing
Stilling Thought
How shall I conquer and still these ravagers,
These thoughts? Delayed they press and press again
Seeking control, such deft manoeuverers,
Passing through the slow unguarded brain,
Suggesting wayward deeds or slipping through
The outer belt, the Shield, they excavate
Inphysical mind a concrete avenue,
Their repetition's play proliferate.
I seek a calm and stillness of the soul
That suffers all experience on earth
Unperturbed, in conscious self-control
That moves through endless corridors of birth,
Apart from distorting vagarie

To the Disciples of Mother and Sri Aurobindo in Russia
Homage to the Motherland
O Russia, Motherland, the gods look down
And smile upon your centuries of toil
That paved the way for the great awakening
To the Force that lay asleep within your soil
And in yourselves, mystic daughters and sons
Who in the Hour of God have heard the call.
O sacred land of suffering and pain
Now the oppressor gone you shall install
Within your vast and offered heart the fire,
The icon of the Lord whose voice is heard
In soul and soul waking to the Light
That breaks from Supermind, transforming Word
Of truth come down by the dual sacrif

A
Prayer to the Divine Mother
8.8.01
Where
among the lilies may be found
A purity
and fragrance matching Hers?
All
earth's scented sweetnesses press round
Her feet
and all the god-discoverers
Drawn as
human magnets to Her force,
Gaze in
rapturous wonderment to see
The
Divine in human form, fount and source
Of man's
desire for immortality.
What
perfect rose would not its fragrance give
Or
petals to adorn her robe of light
And in
that death of offering to live
An
endless moment longer in her sight.
All our
flower-offerings now pale
Before
the gifts of those who gave their soul,

All is Light and Grace
Seeking the path to a deeper consciousness,
Moving towards unplumbed infinities,
Gathering up the threads we held so dear
To front a world of greater destinies
Where mind is stilled the carrier word to hear
And the shell of ego cracked, its sureties
Laid bare to a flame that kindles falsehood's bier
As the soul responds to a first divine caress.
Slowly now we wake to calm within
And feel encompassing aspiring earth
A guidance prompting us to new begin
The quest for which our souls accepted birth,
Descending into form and forgetfulness
To wake to a known but strangely alien face
As on the golden inner door
Autumn Song
For some it is the sorrowing time of year
When autumn's chill descends upon the leaves
But I with grace surrounding have no fear,
Day's brevity is brief, the night deceives,
For hid within its breast the light prepares.
All is God, the blazing of the trees
His flaming pageantry, the frosted air's
His breath and winter's grandeur oversees
The dormant bud that swells to meet the Spring.
Our life in flux and we desiring peace
To Him our human faults and failures bring,
From Falsehood's grip confining seek release.
