Diptych I Have Looked on Images 10/31/00 I have looked on images of Her That blind our human eyes With a brilliance from another World of crystal skies. The eternal godhead here descended From its gold infinity Signals us the night is ended Of our dark obscurity. She Who Dwells Within 9/7/00 Softly She walks on white-clad feet In the g

Darshan of the Lord I met Him across the borders of a world That mind knows not nor reason can explain; And came to Him while the body lay in sleep Entering as a guest in His domain. It was a place familiar yet unknown Simply built in shades of white on white Its substance formed of subtle matter's make Transparent, pure, an edifice of light. In a room that seemed like any earthly room On a couch that felt like any earthly seat He bade me come and sit by Him while men I knew in life walked by on silent feet. I sat beside the Lord of Dest

Fragrant Vision As the jasmine so the rose A scent from heaven faintly blows Across the still untroubled mind And all my being towards Her flows. In the calm reflective space Of the spirit's godward pace A fragrance of the soul I find In every form, in every face. I look anew with brighter eyes On the haunting beauty of the skies In every stranger that I meet I see a light no dark denies. All the beauty still to be The joy awaiting patiently A tread on earth of golden feet, The hour of divinity.

Meditation Eve Pale moon-fraught night on distant Bengal's shore A silver luminescence robes the sea, Opening wide the Sanctuary's door Admits the pilgrim and the devotee. Alone amid the multitudes we move Beneath the welcoming arms of the Service Tree, Trimming the lamp within the secret cove To free the soul and ever Thy captive be. But a thousand meditations such as these Yield hollow fruit unless upon the swell We leap beyond the self and swift release The growing godhead hid within the cell. The pulsing orange glow of an incense spire Evokes within the fierce and cleansing fire.

Auroville Beloved: Matrimandir Within O build in us a temple of the soul With gilded panes to catch the fires of dawn Where no duality longing could survive The swift embrace of night by ecstasied morn. In a secret room behind the body's walls Install a crystal sphere reflecting Thee For all within our yearning being calls Thy descent into the waiting sanctuary. In emerald canopies and scented groves Where the sun-bright Rishis meditate And change the course of destiny by prayer The acolytes of the future congregate.

The Rose of God's Infinity.htm The Rose of God's Infinity We seek in the fragrance of the eternal rose To recall those times of grandeur won and lost And cull from the landscape of our buried past Moments of magic we would once again disclose To the stifled heart, the stilted mind, the peak Of divine experience descended on our days When life was new and joy came bursting forth From the body's wall and soul began to seek. It was a time when the rose of passion bloomed Its red-hot petals searing heart and flesh And every sky rained down in sunlit streams Such flowers of youth, and oh, the world assumed One's own to grasp and fill each deep desire, Free

Witness-Self Approaching A vague hiatus quells the deeper prayer Though desert dryness troubles not the soul An approaching stillness felt upon the air, An instant's peace in the climb to a distant goal. A meditative atmosphere to span The reach of being seeking for its light Enveloping the moment and the man Descends to wake within the inner sight. All rises from hidden depths to scrutiny, All imperfections are held before our eyes To offer to the transforming divinity That from our mortal threshold we may rise To spirit greatness fulfilling God's desire In forms new-made aglow with the inner fire.

PREFACE TO THE FOURTH EDITION   Since the publication of the third edition of The Handbook on Plumeria Culture, we've seen a meteoric rise in the popularity of plumerias. Plumerias are now available at specialty nurseries in many parts of the country and even more sources are found through mail order catalogs. The year 2000 has arrived, the dawn of a new millennium, one of unprecedented challenge and possibility. We wish to take this opportunity to thank all of our plumeria friends who have kept in touch these many years, telling us of their wonderful experiences with plumerias and oleanders (our second book). We remember them with deep affection. Among t
