DEPARTMENTS OF THE ASHRAM The Ashram consists of over 80 departments which include farms, gardens, healthcare, guesthouses and engineering units among many others. Most of these departments have emerged spontaneously, sometimes because of a need for a product or service that wasn't available, often because the Mother encouraged a sadhak to pursue his art. Under Her personal guidance and care, these small units soon grew up into well-established departments. Visitor's Information Centre This is the Ashram information centre for visitors. It provides visitors with the following services: It hosts a permanent exhibition introducing the life and yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother through their own writings. It also offers a glimpse into the Ashram and its activities. SRI AUROBINDO LIBRARY    The Ashram Library started in 1954. The Mother then gave it the message: "A library must be an intellectual sanctuary. There one should look for light and progress." Set in a large, French colonial building with its big halls, its quiet corners, and its own little garden in front, and with 80,000 books in 25 different languages and hundreds of periodicals, the library is very much an intellectual sanctuary. ELECTRIC AND WATER SERVICE  The Ashram was formed in 1926 without any announcement without any proclamation. But it emerged slowly from some unknown depth according to necessity. These necessities formed some centers of activities oriented around some ideal and aim of service, the service to the Divine Mother called the Mother’s work and the service to the community. As the community was growing the number of service centers increased and also each centre expanded.     Thus the first service centre was the Dining Room and Kitchen. It appeared or emerged in the year 1923 when the Mothe
